In their match against RR, PBKS batted first and posted a formidable score of 187/5. A fantastic partnership between Shahrukh and Curran was largely responsible for this. The pair eclipsed the previous sixth-wicket record of 61 not out, which had been achieved by KL Rahul and Harpreet Brar in the year 2021. The pair scored 73 runs together during their partnership.
The Punjab Kings got off to a rough start, losing three wickets during the powerplay because Trent Boult, Navdeep Saini, and Adam Zampa bowled really well. After Liam Livingstone was run out in the seventh over, they found themselves in a difficult position at 50/4. Jitesh Sharma’s blistering stroke of 44 runs off just 28 deliveries, though, brought the innings back to life.
Both Shahrukh (41* off 23) and Curran (49* off 31) launched an attack on the bowlers for the Royals in the last five overs of their innings, smacking eight boundaries and four sixes between them. The last over that RR delivered was bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal, and it was a disaster for the visitors, as they let up 28 runs in one over. The combination meant that the Punjab Kings would have a respectable score to defend on a pitch that was conducive to batting.

“In my opinion, the fact that we lost so many wickets when batting is the primary reason for our poor performance. We had a respectable score thanks to Jitesh, Sam, and Shahrukh, but our fielding was subpar while our bowling was strong. I thought a score between 200 and 215 was acceptable here. I get the impression that we might have performed far better in every aspect. As a group, we did not work well together. Following the game, Dhawan was overheard saying, “The graph goes up and down, and the boys will learn.”
Dhawan went on to say that he still had a lot to learn before the next season of the Indian Premier League. Before Shimron Hetmyer (46) brought RR closer to victory, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal each scored a fifty for their respective teams. Dhruv Jurel, an Impact Player, hit the winning run for RR in the final over.
“I have also learned a great deal of things, including the importance of learning from one’s errors. This morning, I found myself in this situation. The goal was attainable, and the player wanted to go as far as possible in the game. Today, Rahul bowled brilliantly despite having a challenging assignment in front of him. Today I was in a position where I had no other option. However, I should not have given it to Brar in the last match. I am grateful. Dhawan said that there were several takeaways for the team as they prepared for the next season.
